Kabuto is a spoiled and obnoxious drifter that resides in Tokyo.

History[]

Cars Toons[]

Tokyo Mater[]

In Tokyo Mater, Kabuto encounters Mater when the latter accidentally touches his paint, upon his arrival, and challenges him to a drift race, that takes them all the way to the top of Tokyo Tower. The winner will be crowned king of all drifters, but the loser will be stripped of all modifications. During the race, Kabuto taunts Mater for not being able to drift so easily compared, and tries to lose him, by summoning his ninja to attack Mater. However, Lightning McQueen (who suddenly came into the story after Mater announced that he was there too) immediately takes out the ninjas, only for them to find out that Kabuto is nearly at the tower. Soon, Mater catches up to Kabuto through a pipe that McQueen sends him through with a fireball, and the two of them race up to the top of the tower. Furious and determined to win, Kabuto knocks Mater off the tower, but is shocked to find that Mater had got to the top with his hook, thus winning the race and costing Kabuto his modifications. Now having become "stock", Kabuto is left humiliated by his own ninja.

Cars: Race-O-Rama[]

In Cars: Race-O-Rama, Mater must compete in a drift race that is very heavily based on the events of Tokyo Mater. Kabuto appears as the only opponent during the race, with the exception of VS mode, where he is replaced by Dragon Lightning McQueen. The race goes around the streets, through a traffic jam, into a construction site, through a pipe, and finally up Tokyo Tower.

Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales[]

In Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales, Kabuto makes an appearance as a supporting character in the Tokyo Mater set of minigames.

Cars 2[]

In Cars 2, Kabuto appears during Mater and McQueen's visit to Tokyo in time for the World Grand Prix, first while they are driving through the streets, and later at the welcome party held at the National Art Center with Yokoza, Komodo, Chisaki, Harumi, Suki, and Ichigo. Here, he is sporting his modifications despite their removal in Tokyo Mater, which implies that Mater made up the story and it didn't actually happen.

General information[]

Physical description[]

He somewhat resembles Boost, due to being highly modified and having a similar make model. After losing a race against Mater, he is stripped of any and all modifications, thus turning him into "stock". However, he is seen with his modifications in all of his future appearances. Kabuto is a Kyoku Jitsu and is designed to resemble Boost. He also has a high resemblance to a 1999 Nissan Silvia (S15) with a custom body kit that resembles the Japan Grand Touring Championship racecar. He is painted gray, with black lining and rims. His rims are outlined in red, and red lining elsewhere on his body. He has three spoilers mounted on his back and a gigantic yellow modification on his roof. On his doors, he has long rectangles with red dots and white squares.

Trivia[]

  • The kabuto is the name of the traditional samurai helmet, of which Kabuto's design bears resemblance to.
  • In Cars 2, his eyes are brown, but in Tokyo Mater and on his Mattel die-cast, they are green, creating an error. In real life, brown is the most common eye color among East Asians, which could have to do with the change.[1]
